next stop is the Design Museum of Holon

perception of design and how it affects lives, in positive and negative
ways. Our lunch stop will be at the Holon Shopping Mall where there are many

Secrets
of Ancient Waterways
Monday
30 August Guide:
Sharona Liman
Our
first visit will be to “Mei Kedem”, a unique archaeological site in
Alona Park. We will view the ancient water factory constructed to
supply water to ancient Caesarea. We will take an exciting walk through the
freshwater cisterns. Please
wear appropriate clothes and shoes for walking through knee-high water.Nearby
Shuni is situated on lands that belonged to the Menashe tribe and is
identified with the Shuni village mentioned in the Talmud. According to
lore, Jews were wary of visiting the park’s pool as naked women swam in it
from the 2nd to the 6th Centuries.
Our picnic lunch stop is at Shuni. At Bet
Hananya we will visit the aquaduct
and see the inscription made by Adrianus’ 10th Legion.
From one view point, 4 water canals from different periods and different
water carrying-technologies can be seen.
We
will continue on to Nahal Taninim (Crocodile Stream) Nature Reserve
where we will have a refreshment break and visit the reserve including “Nahal
Eitan”, a graveled ridge, a rich nature reserve featuring many of the
technological engineering highlights of ancient times and a huge dam where
flour mills were built.
Nahal Taninim is the last non-polluted stream in
the area. Its name is derived from the crocodiles which lived in the
swampland until early in the 20th century. Nahal Taninim provides
drainage for the western slopes of Ramot Menashe. It also provides water
used by Kibbutz Maagan Michael for the watering and nurturing of the fish
pools.
