Jerusalem: AACI, Zionist Archives, Museum of Psalms and Singer
Project Wednesday 10 March

National
AACI is moving to new premises in Talpiot. Our day in Jerusalem has been
arranged so that we can visit their new home and wish them well.
Our first stop is a visit to the Central Zionist Archives covering the years
1880-1970. The Archives are not intended to be for historians only but the
wider public is welcome to come and get to know its treasures and the
collections it holds.
We will see a presentation of the Archives with selected highlights in the
lecture hall. This will be followed by a tour of Herzl's archives and a
screening of a short movie from the Steven Spielberg Jewish Film Archive
which houses over 3,000 film and video titles and a tour of the exhibits
currently on display.
AACI Jerusalem are moving into larger premises in order to consolidate their
activities, improve efficiency, and thus reduce organizational costs while
enhancing the quality and scope of programs and services. In honor of this
occasion we shall visit the new offices and hear of their plans.
We shall enjoy a sandwich lunch from the Holy Bagel Kosher Café which will
be delivered to us during our visit to the new offices.
The Museum of Psalms is located in the Jewish Quarter and there we shall see
the paintings of Moshe Tzvi Berger who has taken more than seven years to
paint each of the Psalms. This is a most unusual, exquisite and unique art
collection depicting art as an expression of prayer and opening up a new way
of thought and communication.

Our
final stop will be to the Alex Singer Project in the German Colony. Alex
Singer was an American immigrant who became a platoon commander in the
Givati Brigade. He was killed in Lebanon on his 25th birthday whilst trying
to reach a wounded comrade during an ambush on his patrol. Alex traveled
everywhere with a sketchbook, pens and a small watercolor set. His older
brother, Saul, will introduce an exhibition of some of his most poignant
paintings and writings which aim to give a panorama of Alex’s life.
