Home   Tiyulim in May
On Our Doorstep Wednesday 5 May
Our half day tiyul will take us to three villages in the Sharon region. Our first stop is the Tractor Museum. Tractors have been collected in Ein Vered since the beginning of the last century. One of the best known collectors is Erez Milshtein. He has been joined over the years by other enthusiastic collectors, mechanics, electricians and metalworkers and today their collection includes more than 100 items of motorized equipment and dozens of allied items most of which have been repaired to a working condition. Every piece of equipment has an amazing story.
Our second stop is at Beit Ha-Lord (The House of the Lord) in Tel Mond . We will be guided by AACI member Debbie Sinai. The historical Museum of Tel Mond is housed in the former home of Alfred Mond (the first Lord Melchett), an English peer who brought farmers into the Sharon region to establish citrus orchards. The home contains furniture and artefacts belonging to Lord Melchett and his family and depicts his fascinating life.
Our final stop of the day is at Ido Agassi's Book Art and Restoration Workshop at Moshav Herut. We will visit the private press Even Hoshen that produces books in limited editions, printed in letterpress, accompanied by original etchings, prints, woodcuts, with special handmade bindings, elegantly presented in a hand–crafted box.
During our visit we will see the binding process: cutting, sawing, making of a cover, headband sawing and finally experience the pleasure of printing a page. For more information on his work, visit his website at www.idoagassi.com

Symbols, Signs & Flags Half Day Tiyul in Tel Aviv Monday 24 May
Our tiyul will start at the Bible House which is located on Rothschild Boulevard. It started out as the private home of the first mayor of Tel Aviv, Meir Dizengoff. Later he donated it to the city, requesting it be turned into a museum. On display is bible-based artwork by famous artists and an exhibition of models of different Bible stories. “Implement of the Symbol” is the result of research done in the Bible House on our symbols, for example: why is the Star of David blue on a white background? This research throws light on the theme of symbols from Moses to the first Zionist Congress. We will explore the museum to find out where Israeli symbols come from.
In the same building is Independence Hall, where on 14 May 1948 Ben Gurion read Israel’s Declaration of Independence. The hall looks exactly as it did in those days. During our visit we shall take part in a Declaration ceremony most fitting to Israel’s 62nd year of Independence.
There will be free time to stroll down Rothschild Boulevard one of the busiest and most expensive streets in Tel Aviv with its famous wide and leafy promenade and stunning Bauhaus architecture, it serves as the number one spot for strolling and people-watching. Choose from the many eateries in the area or bring your own lunch.
