1. English Tutoring program for
High school students in 11th and 12th grade.
Beit Oleh America Netanya AACI offers an opportunity for high school students
preparing for their oral bagrut examinations to practice their English
conversational skills.
Our volunteers are retired native English speakers who have chosen to make
aliyah and spend their retirement years in Netanya. They are keen to contribute
to Israeli society but are not always able to do so due to their lack of Hebrew.
Our tutoring program offers our members the opportunity to help local youth feel
confident in their use of the English language.
Students are invited to meet our volunteers every Thursday from 4 to 5pm. Our
English tutoring program for high school students is coordinated by Ben Kershner
and Dr Ada Kaplan.
2. Volunteering In Schools
Local schools frequently turn to us looking for volunteers to help with English
lessons. Teachers in the schools have to cope with large classes and mixed
levels and are keen to receive our help. Volunteers will be asked to hear
children reading, role play conversation, etc. Volunteers must be willing to
travel to the schools and be available in morning hours.
3. Homework Support
Through the department of social welfare we have several families who bring
there children to the AACI on Tuesday afternoons between 4 and 5pm for help with
their English homework. These are children who come from very difficult
backgrounds and can not afford private tutoring. The students are often very
weak at English and some knowledge of Hebrew is helpful.
