Professor Livia Biton-Jackson was born in Czechoslovakia. She emigrated to the US in 1951, attended university and received her BA, MA and PhD degrees. She has taught at several institutions of higher learning, among them City University of New York, where she has been Professor of Judaic Studies for over thirty years. This lecture is a continuation of Prof. Jackson's talk about Three Millennia of Jerusalem in November.
Beginning with the British Mandate, 1917, the Balfour Declaration, through Nov. 1947, the UN Resolution to Partition Palestine, which called for the internationalization of Jerusalem as a "corpus separatum" and the War of Independence, 1948, the Six Day War, 1967, which in Jerusalem was only a Three Day War, till today, the story of Jerusalem will be examined. She will focus on fascinating historical records as to demographics, ideologies and semantics.
