Jerusalem

Professor Livia Biton-Jackson was born in Czechoslovakia. She emigrated to the
US in 1951, attended university and received her BA, MA and PhD degrees. She has
taught at several institutions of higher learning, among them City University of
New York, where she has been Professor of Judaic Studies for over thirty years.
This lecture is a continuation of Prof. Jackson's talk about Three Millennia of
Jerusalem in November.
Beginning with the British Mandate, 1917, the Balfour Declaration, through Nov.
1947, the UN Resolution to Partition Palestine, which called for the
internationalization of Jerusalem as a "corpus separatum" and the War of
Independence, 1948, the Six Day War, 1967, which in Jerusalem was only a Three
Day War, till today, the story of Jerusalem will be examined. She will focus on
fascinating historical records as to demographics, ideologies and semantics.
