Evolving Role of Women in Politics

Amy Spiro

will give a lecture on

8.00pm Sunday 6 December

Can a woman be elected U.S. president — or even vice president? Are women in Israel moving backward in representation? With all the strides women are making in politics, Congress is still only a quarter female and Israel has only had one prime minister — 50 years ago. The late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg devoted her life to fighting for women’s advancement and against gender discrimination — did her efforts bear fruit when it comes to higher office?

Amy Spiro is the Jerusalem correspondent and digital editor for Jewish Insider, where she edits the Daily Kickoff newsletter and covers politics, diplomacy, culture and more. Previously, she worked as a reporter and editor for eight years at The Jerusalem Post and before that as a writer for the New York Jewish Week. Amy has a degree in journalism and politics from NYU and was named one of JTA’s “50 Jews everyone should follow on Twitter” last year.
