Gems On Our Doorstep
Ancient Caesarea & Ralli Museum
Monday 9 December
Our trip to the ancient port of Caesarea is a fully guided visit of the Hippodrome and Roman Amphitheater and the palace ruins. Our tour also includes the newly refurbished Visitors’ Center at the ancient harbor for a media presentation on the history of Caesarea and its origins from the period of Herod. The new exhibition incorporates rare archaeological artifacts found during the excavation of the land and seabed. Please note our bus will take us from the amphitheater to the port area of the Caesarea National Park, but there is a considerable amount of walking.
After our tour we will break for our picnic lunch in the Caesarea harbor area where there are eateries but kosher options are limited. Our lunch break includes time to visit the galleries.
Our next stop is the Ralli museum one of five Ralli Museums in the world, founded by Harry Recanati and whose main aim is to acquaint the public with the quality of contemporary Latin American art. The museums are dedicated to the memory of the Jews expelled from Spain and Portugal during the Inquisition and of the Jewish community of Thessaloniki, which was almost completely exterminated in the Holocaust. We have arranged a guided tour, which includes the sculpture patio, a selection of 16th to 18th century European artists depicting Biblical Themes, a selection of modern art works and collection of Dalli sculptures. We will also see the temporary exhibition of renowned Belgian artist Rene Magritte. Please note there is no seating at the Ralli Museum.
