Talking About Books

Tuesday 30 July

In July, we will be discussing Educated by Tara Westover.  This memoir tracks the author’s early difficult life with her Mormon fundamentalist family in the Idaho Mountains, anticipating the end of the world and completely cut off from outside society. Despite this isolation, her extraordinary thirst for knowledge leads her into the academic world of a Harvard fellowship and a Cambridge doctorate.  As the book ends, a family funeral brings her briefly back to the family and the question: has she betrayed her former life?

As with all our book choices, a copy is available from the Gura Family Memorial Library but you might also enjoy reading it on your iPad or Kindle.

Our Talking about Books group is led by Judy Frankel and you’re welcome to come whether or not you’ve read the book. Please let us know if you would like to be on the Talking About Books mailing list.

Suggestions for future book choices are always welcome so please let us know your recommendations.
