Cement, Garbage, Recycling and more…

Wednesday 18 March

This tiyul gives us an opportunity to see how Israel deals with its waste and produces cement using environmentally friendly technologies.

We head south and start our day at the Hiryah Dump (Waste Mountain) to the Hiriya Recycling Park. We will see how the use of advanced technologies has transformed Hiriya into an international leader in the field of solid waste management.  During our tour, we will see the separation processes, the transfer station and the Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) plant that reduces the amount of waste sent for landfill and to produce energy from mixed municipal waste.

Next, we will visit the Ariel Sharon Park (aka Garbage Mountain) an environmental rehabilitation project that transformed a polluted and neglected eyesore into a flourishing metropolitan park. We will see the multi-media presentation The Story of a Mountain.

After a break to eat our packed lunch, we continue south to the Nesher Visitors’ Center in Ramle for a journey into the world of Israeli cement. A journey that reaches back to the days before the State was born, follows the Company’s main milestones and continues to this day, featuring innovation, sustainability and community engagement.
