The Other Story
Film Screening followed by talk with film director Avi Nesher
7.30pm Wednesday 10 April
The Other Story is the highly acclaimed 2018 Israeli drama film directed by Avi Nesher. It was screened in the Contemporary World Cinema section at the 2018 Toronto International Film Festival. The screenplay was co-written by Avi Nesher and Noam Shpancer, clinical psychologist and novelist, and is based on a true story. It centers on two rebellious young women: one fleeing the chaos of secular hedonism for the disciplined comforts of religion and the other desperate to escape her oppressive religious upbringing and embrace sexual and spiritual freedom. They cross paths unexpectedly in Jerusalem, with startling consequences. The film is an intricate web of desperate parents, rebellious children and spouses locked in conflict. Ultimately, The Other Story becomes a reflection on how interfering parents must face the consequences of their actions and how nobody has a monopoly on virtue.
After our screening of The Other Story we are honored to welcome film director Avi Nesher at Netanya AACI. Avi was born and raised in Ramat Gan.
