Afternoon hike followed by Introduction to the Winter Sky

Join us for an afternoon nature hike, walking through the beautiful green paths of Alon, Ela and winter blossoms. After sunset the hike will turn into a guided star-gazing experience with a lecture about the universe that surrounds us. We will learn how to look at the night sky, recognize the planets of the solar system and the zodiac signs. We will learn about other constellations and mythologies told about them in different cultures and we will get to know our Galaxy, the Milky Way, neighboring stars and black holes.
Hike duration: Approximately 2 hours, plus star gazing experience.
Hike distance: 6km.
Terrain: Hilly but not steep (no boulders or cliffs)
Elevation change: 100 (up and down)
Meet: 13.45pm Mei Kedem on route 6533
Finish: After the hike we return to our cars, pick up some warmer clothes and even a folding chair and then continue with the star-gazing experience.
Program ends: depending on clouds approximately 6.00pm
All participants must be in good health and able to hike.
Equipment: Good walking boots or shoes. Comfortable day backpack to carry snacks, and at least 2 litres of water, hat and sunscreen. Warmer clothes, chairs and a hot drink recommended for star-gazing experience.
Shahar Fertig is a registered tour guide and researcher in the field of environmental and public health.
This hike is arranged in accordance with Ministry of Health regulations.
Participants must drive themselves to our meeting point Mei Kedem on route 6533.
(Approximately 1 hour drive from Netanya). From Mei Kedem we will drive in convoy to the start of our hike.
