Shades of Zionism

Wednesday 15 May

Guide: Stephen Kliner

Just a few days after Israel celebrates its 71st birthday, tour guide Stephen Kliner will accompany us to the greater Jerusalem area to discover varying aspects of Zionism.

We start our day at Alon Shvut at the Zomet Institute Visitors’ Center to understand how the Zomet Institute’s Rabbis and Engineers solve modern techno-halachic problems, enabling countless devices to be used on Shabbat. The guided tour includes a fascinating lecture and interactive technological displays.

Our next stop is The Friends Of Zion Museum in Jerusalem. Using ground-breaking technology, a whirlwind virtual tour will take us back in time to meet biblical figures, academics, businessmen and military officials who, through their faith, have forged an everlasting bond with the Jewish people.

After lunch we will continue to our last stop, The Museum Of Underground Prisoners. Stephen will tell us about  the unique and moving story of the struggles of the Yishuv for the establishment of the Jewish State during the British Mandate. Hundreds of underground warriors from the Haganah, Etzel and Lehi were imprisoned here.  The tour includes a film following a new prisoner at the prison, a visit to the escape room, the solitary confinement rooms and the execution chamber.

Price does not include lunch – bring your own or buy at one of the eateries at our lunch stop in Jerusalem.

Depart: Young Israel 8am, Kikar 8.10 am

Return: Approx. 6 pm
