June 7-10:30 am
Risk: What doctors & scientists mean when they use the term At Risk
10.30am Sunday 7 June
Melissa Dubinsky, Ph.D. has been evaluating risks to human health and the environment from various hazards for over 30 years. She has degrees in Biological Sciences, Marine Science and Microbiology and has consulted to industry and governments in many countries. Pronouncements about “risk” fill social media and the news, but it is difficult to sort out what is really meant and what it means for us personally. Melissa will clarify the differences between hazard vs. risk, individual risk vs. population risk, and voluntary risk vs. involuntary risk. She will discuss the concept of risk as it pertains to the Corona virus pandemic. Additionally, Melissa will discuss the terms individual immunity and herd immunity as it relates to diseases such as Covid-19.
Throughout June, our Coffee And… program will be simultaneously in person and online through Zoom. Due to Corona virus regulations the number of participants allowed at our premises is limited.
Please pre-register at the box office for each session and let us know if you are joining us in person or on Zoom.
