The Sergeants Affair
Historical Outing in Netanya
Wednesday 5 June
Arranged in conjunction with the Netanya Museum, we will follow an incident that took place in Mandate Palestine in July 1947 that became known as The Sergeants Affair.
The Irgun captured two British army sergeants and threatened to hang them if the death sentences passed on three Irgun militants were carried out. When the three men were hanged, the Irgun killed the two sergeants and hanged their booby-trapped bodies in a eucalyptus grove.
Our guide has researched this episode and will take us back in time to discover the details of the story as we visit the actual places where the events occurred.
Travelling by bus, with some walking, our historical tour includes stops at Kikar Haatzmaut, 15 Herzl, Ramat Tiomkin, Tubruq and ends at Alonim Grove- previously known as the Sergeants Grove.
