Vernon Katz Photography

September 8 - November 7

New Art Exhibition

Vernon Katz Photography

On Display from 8 September to 7 November

Vernon was born in 1957 in Johannesburg South Africa. As a child he remembers being interested in photography. His next-door neighbor had a dark room where they used to develop black and white images that they took with the old Kodak Instamatic cameras. When Vernon started to work he bought his first real camera, a Olympus OM2N.

This was the first time that he could really do things and he wanted to do color work. There were trips to the game reserve and the landscapes of the Drakensburg but now they had to take the film to be developed. There was the delay of a few days to get the images back and see the printed result. The waiting period had a sort of excitement as well as pressure as to how they would come out. Inevitably there was never a 100 per cent success rate but the more photos he took the better the result.

When Vernon made Aliyah to Israel in 1994, he still used the same camera but then the digital age began and he bought his first Fuji digital camera. Now he could review the images immediately, and then use a program to process them. Years later he bought a Canon 500D and some lenses and could do things that he had always wanted to do. As the hobby grew, so did the expenses, and the camera changed to a Canon 5D MK3.

When he had a stroke 8 years ago, everything changed. He decided to live for now after his recovery and since then he has done a lot of the things that he had mentally planned to do after retirement, including the Serengeti game reserve, Arizona, Hawaii, arctic area as well as Venice just to name a few. Life is full of surprises and he met an artist Marco Zalick who does steampunk art and did some images of his work and slowly got drawn into his world as a fine art photographer. Vernon has recently shown some work at the local Kfar Saba art happening and also has some work at the Space Gallery in the Tel Aviv Harbour for their safari exhibition.
