Water & Technology

Postponed!

Wednesday 17 June

Technology is our  focus as we tour the new Technion Polak Visitors’ Center and two of Israel’s very important water treatment centers.

The Technion tour conveys information on the university’s history, academic achievements and role in the success of Israeli high tech, and includes an interactive experience through a digital map, a movie shown on a 360° screen, and an exhibition hall with models of some of our recent discoveries. Enjoy short presentations focusing on industry related to the Technion, followed by a walking tour of the campus.

We will visit two operations of the Israel National Water Company. At the Eshkol site, water from the Sea of Galilee is treated to improve the quality before it is pumped into a closed pipeline across the country by means of the National Carrier. The visit begins with a spectacular multi-sensory exhibit of water, lights, colors and sounds, combined with a fascinating explanation of Israel’s water sources and the treatment methods applied before supplying excellent quality drinking water to all parts of Israel. See great views of the reservoirs and the surrounding area.

The Sapir site shows a cross-sectional model of the National Carrier and several explanatory films, and includes a tour of the station’s fourth pumping unit. Water is pumped from the Sea of Galilee to a height of 250 meters – more than 80 floors! The nearby Chara lookout overlooks the beautiful scenery of Nahal Amud as well as the Gihon (U-shaped pipes) laid in the river, to transport the water across the river according to the laws of physics.
